The Eden Whale Festival is celebrating International Talk Like A Pirate Day with a Pirates on Twofold Bay Cruise on the Cat Balou on Saturday September 20 from 5-7pm. The cruise departs from Eden Wharf for a high seas adventure into the waters of Twofold Bay. Tis only $30 of ye treasure to join the fun and yarr boat pass can be bought from the Eden newsagency. On board the vessel some grub will be provided and grog will be available for a price. Thar be beer, wine and a pirate’s favourite drink, Rum.

After we plunder the seas all ye salty sea dogs can continue as land lubbers at the Eden Fishermen’s Club for a Pirate Party. Get ye pirate grub and have jig with sea shanty’s (or just regular music) provided by White Noise. They be awarding prizes for the best attired pirate lad and lass on the night.

The tale of Talk Like a Pirate Day began on June 6, 1995, during a game of racquetball. During the game the Pirate Guys (as they are now known), just started giving their encouragement to each other in pirate slang. They used phrases such as “Arrr!”, “That be a fine cannonade,” followed by “Now watch as I fire a broadside straight into your yardarm!” and other such helpful phrases. At the end of the game, they realized that lapsing into pirate lingo had made the game more fun and the time pass more quickly. They decided then and there that what the world really needed was a new national holiday, and so Talk Like A Pirate Day was born.

Cost is $30 per pirate. Tickets available from Eden Newsagent.
