We owe a huge thanks to three of our local licensed clubs and the Bega Valley Club Grants initiative for making our 2019 Festival Kite program possible.
Clubs that earn over $1 million annually in gaming machine revenue provide funding for community projects and services. Each year through Club Grants, clubs across NSW provide support to tens of thousands of local community organisations, sporting groups, and charities that make a difference in their local area.
Our Kites program grant was jointly funded by Club Sapphire, Merimbula; Eden Fisherman’s Club and Merimbula RSL.
Last year was the first year the Festival featured kite flying and it was a huge success, so we’re thrilled that our application to the grants program has secured us $3,000 towards bringing the Australian Kite Flying Society to Eden again in November.
The Australian Kite Flying Society is a group of professional kite flyers from around Australia. They’re responsible for organising the Bondi Festival of Wind and the Harden Kite Festival. Members travel the world to fly. Robert Moore, the current world record holder for the highest kite flown will be returning to Eden with the group this year
Kites of all shapes and sizes (including whales) will fly all
weekend at the festival grounds and Aslings Beach so keep your eyes to the sky! There will also be demonstrations and workshops on the Saturday.
Kites are really taking over Eden this year. Workshops will be held all of September and October leading up to the Festival. Wheelers Seafood Restaurant will once again be hosting their hugely popular High Tea and Kite Making workshops. Parents will be able to come along, relax and enjoy a tea or wine while the kids keep busy building kites.
There’ll be more workshops at the Fisherman’s Club and at local schools, playgroups, church groups, the Eden Public Library and local markets. Our complete workshop schedule will be posted in September.
