(Oil, Acrylic, Watercolour, Mixed)
Photos of our beautiful Bega Valley Shire and its inhabitants, think stunning landscapes, local flora and fauna, and community characters.
Photographs must be taken in Bega Valley Shire, and be less than a year old.
Categories include:
Open (18 years and over)
Youth (13-17 inclusive)
Junior (12 & under)
Any item can be entered as long as it is primarily from wood.
The unplugged category is a chance to showcase your skill using unpowered hand tools.
Categories include:
Plugged – Open (18 years and over)
Plugged – Youth (17 & under)
Unplugged (all ages)
Think outside the box!
Commercial quality canvas and water colour paper is required.
A maximum of two items may be entered per category per person.
The maximum size is A1
84cm (H) x 59cm (W)

2025 EDEN WHALE FESTIVAL
COMPETITION ENTRY INFORMATION

TO ENTER: Complete the entry form and email to admin@edenwhalefestival.com.au .
DUE DATE: Entry forms are required 30th September, 2025, no late entries will be accepted. Details regarding bump in and bump out of entry items will be emailed to all entrants upon receiving entry form.
WINNER ANNOUNCEMENT: Winners will be announced at the official opening of the exhibition and special launch party held at Barclay Street Sports Oval Pavilion, Eden from 5.30pm – 7:00pm on Friday 3rd October.
Conditions of Entry
General Conditions
– Entries are open until 5pm Tuesday 30th September 2025 (no late entries will be permitted).
– The item entered MUST be made / photographed / painted by the person entering the competition.
– The item cannot have been entered in, or won, any other similar competition including previous Eden Whale Festival competitions.
– A maximum of two items may be entered per category per person.
– For age categories, age is set at date of entry being lodged.
– Items entered in the competition MUST be available to be exhibited in the exhibition space on 3rd & 4th October. Space may be limited. In the unlikely event that we run out of exhibition space we will do our best to rotate the display.
– Entrants are responsible for delivery and pick up of the entered items to the exhibition venue for judging and exhibiting.
– Exhibition Venue is Eden Barclay Street, Sports Oval Pavilion, Eden – bump in and bump out requirements will be emailed to all entrants upon receiving completed entry form.
– The organisers of the competition and exhibition, and organisers of the Eden Whale Festival take no responsibility or liability for any damage caused to entered items during the setting up and exhibition period.
– Judging will be by a panel and judges’ decisions are final, no correspondence will be entered into.
– The results of the competition will be announced through local and social media. All entrants grant permission to the organisers and sponsors to publish and/or broadcast the names and photographs of the finalists, the winners and their entries through print and electronic media.
– Judges and their immediate families are not eligible to enter.
Artists Who Wood Additional Conditions
– Categories are Plugged (Open – aged 18 and over), Plugged (Youth – aged under 18)
Unplugged (pieces made using unpowered hand tools) and
Composite (entries must indicate what inclusions have been added).
– The competition has no theme, any piece can be entered if it is made primarily from wood.
– The prize money (kindly donated by the Forestry Corporation of NSW) will be as follows: Winner “Plugged” (Open) $500, Runner Up (Open) $250, Winner “Plugged” (Youth) $400, Runner Up (Youth) $200
Winner (Unplugged) $500, Runner Up (Unplugged) $250,
Winner (Composite) $500, Runner Up (Composite) $250.
Through the Lens Additional Conditions
– Categories are Open (aged 18 and over), Youth (aged 13-17 inclusive) and Junior (aged 12 and under). Amateur photographers only please.
– Photographs must be taken within the last 12 months and in the Bega Valley Shire. Photographs cannot have been entered in, or won, any other similar competition including previous Eden Whale Festivals
– All photographs need to be 20cm X 30cm (A4 size) mounted on black or white cardboard with a 2cm border, labelled with the title of the work on the front and the name and category on the back.
– No watermarks please as this will identify the entrant.
– No glass, frames, boards or poster prints will be accepted.
– The prize money (kindly donated by the Twofold Bay Ladies Club) will be as follows:
Winner (Open) $200, Runner Up (Open) $100,
Winner (Youth) $ 80, Runner Up (Youth) $ 50,
Winner (Junior) $ 50, Runner Up (Junior) $ 20.
Painting Competition Additional Conditions
Mediums – Oil, Acrylic, Water Colour and Mixed Media
– Categories are Open (aged 18 and over), Youth (aged 13-17 inclusive) for Oil, Acrylic & Water Colour
Open (aged 18 and over) for Mixed Media.
– The item cannot have been entered in, or won, any other similar competition including previous Eden Whale Festival competitions.
– Commercial quality canvas is essential and are work must be ready for hanging – Water Colour must be mounted and ready for hanging.
– A maximum of two (2) items may be entered per category per person.
– The maximum size is A1, 84cm (H) x 59cm (W).
– For age categories, age is set at date of entry being lodged.
– Items entered in the competition MUST be available to be exhibited in the exhibition space up to, and including, 3rd and 4th October, 2025. Space may be limited. In the unlikely event that we run out of exhibition space we will do our best to rotate the display.
– Entrants are responsible for delivery and pick up of the entered items to the exhibition venue for judging and exhibition.
– The prizes for this competition, kindly donated by many businesses in the Bega Valley Shire and we thank them for their support.
