As the Second World War continued, Australia faced a severe reduction in manpower, capital assets, food and goods, and transport difficulties. A campaign to encourage donations to war loan funds, and participation in all types of work to assist with the war effort also began.
In Demand examines advertisements that featured in Australian women’s magazines during the Second World War, and the ways in which they promoted the war effort of companies and civilians, patriotism, and a shift in marketing women’s products.
