Let’s go make a kite, then fly it!

This coming school holidays kids will be able to build their own kites, ready to fly at the Eden Whale Festival. How cool!

There’ll be a series of kite making and festival-related kids workshops held up and down the Shire from Eden to Tura Beach as well as a High Tea and Kite Making workshop at Wheelers Restaurant.

The workshops have been made possible thanks to the generosity of our local clubs and Bega Valley Club Grants.

One of the workshops co-ordinators is local resident Petra Palmer who says kids will be able to explore the shapes of sea creatures from whales to plankton as they decorate their kites.

“They’ll have the freedom to personalise their kites, test them out and prepare to fly them at home, at the beach and at the Festival.

“Kite making and flying have so many benefits including developing creative thinking. For example, when flying kites, wind changes mean thinking creatively to adapt and adjust to the conditions.

There are lots of other great benefits to working with kites. Kite flying regenerates energy and reduces stress and tension and is a positive form of self-expression. Watching a kite fly is relaxing because the flyer needs to be in the moment and fully present”.

The workshop kite kits are diamond-shaped and come in two sizes – small for children up to age 7 and large for children 7 & up.

You’ll find information about dates, times and venues below. Check back here for more information over the coming weeks or keep an eye on our Facebook page.
